Brisbane Broncos look to condemn St George Illawarra Dragons to a 0-3 start to the season when the two teams launch NRL Round 3 action on Thursday night.

St George Illawarra Dragons face a tough test to avoid losing their third straight match to open the season when they meet the Brisbane Broncos on Thursday night at Suncorp Stadium.

It’s all gone wrong for the Dragons to kick off 2019, losing to the Cowboys and Rabbitohs in the first two rounds, while they’ve also lost star forward Tyson Frizell to injury.

Traditionally, the Dragons have always started seasons on a positive note in recent times and tailed off as the year drags on, but this time they will be playing catch-up from the get-go.

Paul McGregor isn’t panicking though, making just one change to the team that lost 34-18 to the Rabbitohs, with Korbin Sims returning from injury in place of Josh Kerr.

Brisbane meanwhile picked up their first win of the season after falling to Melbourne in their opener, producing a brilliant performance to take out the Cowboys by a 29-10 scoreline last week.

Tavita Pangai put together one of the performances of the round in a destructive display in the forwards, outmuscling the impressive Cowboys back almost single-handedly. If he can keep up that level for the rest of the season, watch out

Jack Bird is also producing some resurgent form after a tough injury-riddled campaign in his debut season with the Broncos last season.

The Dragons have fond memories of their last visit to Suncorp, destroying the Broncos 48-18 in last season’s elimination final. However, the Broncos are looking slick and polished to start the new season, while the Dragons are seemingly still trying to figure out combinations and are struggling to put together 80-minute performances. Back the Broncos at home.
